Shikara Part One: 'Symptom' - Ari L C Jay Set in the south western corner of the USA, 'Shikara' is an atmospheric novel, meticulously and exhaustively researched to give that unmistakeable feeling of 'rightness'. It is a modern-day vampire story but its setting makes it unique as it is steeped in Native American history, bringing the story of the Anasazi people of the first millenium to life through its careful and knowledgeable references to the history ond beliefs of the many peoples to have inhabited the area. Shikara Part Two: 'Cause' - Ari L C Jay The second part of the 'Shikara' trilogy, 'Cause' takes the story forwards at a pace that is breathtaking, yet is at the same time full of authentic detail. Part 1, 'Symptom', saw young Jason Kirby distraught at the disappearance of Juliette Pearson, his girlfriend and soulmate, and at the horrific killings of her family. Part 2 sees him begin the hunt for Juliette, guided by Natches, the Navajo tracker. What Natches knows Jason needs to be told. It is alarming enough for the young man, but when irrefutable proof is put before him that the quest on which he is engaged was foretold four centuries previously in sufficient detail to include a description of himself, and his pet name for Juliette, he begins to realise just how serious life has become. By the end of 'Cause' the tension has built up, the several strands of this latter-day vampire-horror story are slowly merging; there can only be a climactic, explosive conclusion in Part 3!
