The First Collection - Sarah Sidibeh
Sarah Sidibeh's appropriately title 'First Collection' of poetry consists of poems which are generally themed around the perceived injustices and inequalities of modern life. Not everyone will agree in every case with the stance she takes yet one thing is certain: her points represent a cogently argued and highly readable comment on modern social history. There are occasional deviations from the central theme: these prove that whilst the core of the book is serious in its intent the author's sense of fun is never far below the surface.
Poetry is a medium that can say much more concisely than is possible in prose and there evidence is here for all to see. We recommend this collection to all who believe themselves to know right from wrong.

Variety In Verse - Various Writers
There are several accomplished poets whose work is available in our poetry section, but from time to time we receive examples of what others are capable of. This book contains contributions from poets whose work features on the Deunant website and from those who, apart from their contributions to this book, are not known to us. The range of work they display in this book is surprising, from the singular style of tc moon to the wry observational skill of Elizabeth Jardine, or from the short stories in verse offered by Ronald White to the remarkable management of words shown by Derek Thorp.
It is a book that will evolve over time as new work is added, effectively creating a new edition from time to time.

A Simple Poet - Brian Cummiskey
Brian Cummiskey's first collection of poems may be entitled "A Simple Poet" but that perhaps does not do his work justice. The main theme of these poems is life as it was a generation ago, growing up in the environs of Glasgow and those poems are written in what Brian himself refers to as 'auld Scots'; it gives the poems a special charm.
Following those very Scottish verses are a selection of others including the haunting 'Play Me A Tune, Wee Mouthie' and 'A Dance Macabre', both eloquent comments on the reality of war.
This is a collection to treasure, one that will be enjoyed time and time again.

Wee Verses - Brian Cummiskey
Poetry for children can be a real joy and this anthology from Brian Cummiskey is all the proof anyone could need. There's so much here, from fantastic pirates to monkeys who feel the cold, to wonderful childhood memories. The diversity is truly surprising, yet each poem is a little gem and there is the unmistakable atmosphere of Scotland permeating the whole collection. That's not to say it's only for little Scottish people because these poems will be enjoyed by children everywhere; grown-ups too could easily find them irresistable and a source of clandestine enjoyment!
Children who discover these poems may not be aware of it, but there is much that is educational in this collection: questions that might arise include why might monkeys living in Scotland feel cold, why it's always best to pay attention at school and more besides. But above all these poems are fun for developing minds!

Poems Of Love - Belinda Saulnier
In the hands of a skilled poet, verse can be a powerfully expressive art form, conveying emotion with a clarity and economy that is impossible to achieve in prose. Belinda Saulnier's collection of poems demonstrates that, when the emotion is love, a poem can say so much; in her hands it is said beautifully.
It can be said that a measure of the success of any written work is the impact it has upon the reader, both while reading and afterwards. Reading these poems will generate a warm internal glow: their lasting effect will be to enhance the reader's own relationships simply because these verses put into words the pure essence of love between a man and a woman.
It is but a small collection, but one whose lasting impressions far outweigh its size.

Collected Poems - Evelyn Scott Brown
"Collected Poems" was first published in 1994 as a strictly limited edition of just 50 copies. We are delighted to be able to introduce the work to the much wider audience that it has always deserved.
The book is divided into three sections: Nature, Love Poems and Philosophical verses. The extract contains an example from each section. Whatever the subject, though, each poem demonstrates that rarest of abilities - that of being able to manage words. The English language is rich in the variety it offers when making even the simplest of statements but the ability to select the precisely appropriate words and through that choice to create the ambience the author has in mind is rare indeed. It is a privilege to offer so many splendid examples in a single book.
This book is an occasionally challenging but always inspiring collection of outstanding work, which we recommend highly.

Poetic Short Stories - Ronald White
Poetry is an art form that can touch the emotions in a way that prose can rarely match. In this anthology of 29 poems Ronald White shows that it can be adapted to tell stories, making the message contained in each of those stories very plain. Many of these poetic stories carry the message that belief in God, irrespective of the label one's chosen faith may bear, is a good thing; even the most confirmed of atheists will, nevertheless, enjoy and sympathise with what the writer has to say.
This is a hugely enjoyable book, which can be appreciated even by those who protest that they "don't like poetry".

The Unknown Poet - tc moon
Poetry is an art form that can amuse, entertain, or challenge. It can appeal directly to the emotions in a way that mere prose cannot. In this collection of over thirty of his poems tc moon demomstrates the diversity of which the poem is capable. There are serious pieces, such as '9/11/02' or the thought-provoking 'Gladiator' and those of a far lighter tone, epitomised in 'Cedric The Germ'.
Calling himself the world's greatest unknown poet, tc moon clearly wants to lose at least part of that title. The publication of this collection will go a long way to achieving that objective, simply because he wil become widely known. He has added his own unique and significant contribution to a body of work that is here to delight lovers of verse the world over.

I Am An African - Frans Bopape
Frans Bopape is from South Africa; his deep affection for his country and indeed his continent is expressed very clearly in this, the first collection of his poetry.
His words express much that anyone with any sensitivity at all will feel. He advocates love for one's country and fellow man, respect for those who pursue peace on the world stage - Nelson Mandela is cited as a shining example - and he highlights killer diseases which still afflict much of Africa's population.
Frans Bopape has added his eloquent voice to those already directing attention towards Africa. His words should be listened to and acted upon.

On My Wavelength - Melinda Penman
As Mel Penman herself says, "I write about subjects that we can all relate to, whether directly or indirectly. Sometimes funny, sometimes poignant, sometimes tongue-in-cheek, sometimes upsetting, sometimes thought provoking, but always real .. and in language everyone can understand!"
In this collection of poems she has achieved just that - it is a hugely enjoyable, very readable little book that conveys so much so well.

Geordieland - Elizabeth Jardine
The follow-up volume to 'Simply: Poetry', 'Geordieland is, as its title implies, an homage to the North East of England. It is an area that is really quite small, yet has had an influence across the country - and much, much further afield - that belies its size and modest population. It is this rich heritage upon which Elizabeth Jardine has called to create a volume of poetry which gives a real insight into a very special part of the world and its equally special people.
As with 'Simply: Poetry', the verses included are accessible in the extreme as the author has made something of a specialism of acessible poetry. It is a joy to read from beginning to end.

Simply: Poetry - Elizabeth Jardine
Poetry can be eloquent, it can say things more elegantly than prose; it can also be difficult to read and understand. Elizabeth Jardine, though, proves in this collection of poems - and in its follow-up, 'Geordieland' - that it needn't be hard at all. In fact, reading poetry can be fun: 'Modesty' is the perfect example. Even when she's being rather more serious, Elizabeth still makes her work accessible and easy to read - 'Asylum' might not be the easiest subject to deal with, yet it is a poem that is at the same time moving and somehow friendly.
If you've never considered poetry as an alternative form to prose, there is no better place to start than right here!
