Atlantis Adventure - Jenny JamesAtlantis Adventure - Jenny James
The Atlantis Community has its roots firmly in Irish soil, on the island of Inishfree, yet it metamorphosed into a farming community in the mountains of Colombia. How was this transformation achieved and, more importantly, why?

In this wonderfully written book Jenny James explains why it was felt necessary to throw off the restraints of modern-day 'civilised' society and how the move was accomplished. It is a fascinating enough story for anyone, but for those of us who have any doubts at all about the value of increasing State interference in our lives it quickly becomes more than that: there is much that is educationally valuable in Jenny's brilliantly told story.

The journey, essentially that of a mother, three very young children and an assortment of others, begins, naturally enough, in Ireland but in swift succession passes through London before venturing to the Canary Islands and the Cape Verde Islands - with a side-trip to Sweden - before crossing the Atlantic. By way of Martinique the group arrive in Venezuela and trek through Colombia, Ecuador and Peru before finally coming to rest in Colombia again.

If there were any doubts about the strength and abilities of this truly remarkable woman Jenny James lays them to rest in this equally remarkable book and does it in a way that is true to herself - assertively yet compassionately, coupled with vulnerability.

The Atlantis Handbook Of Sex Techniques - Jenny JamesThe Atlantis Handbook Of Sex Techniques - Jenny James
Our reviewer (male) found it impossible to summarise this book, so we'll let a (female) reader do it:

Personally, although you are very full on, I do think there’s a place in the world for your sort of uncompromising honesty – in fact the time has come for it. Women have spent too many centuries trying to placate petulant men and getting nowhere. Achieving real communication means doing a lot of shit stirring first – there doesn’t seem to be any polite way to do it.

I enjoyed reading the manuscript, laughed a lot with it recognizing the truth of quite a bit of what you’re saying. To be honest, I wish I could have disagreed with you a bit more, then I would have been able to challenge better what you write. Instead, I just spent a lot of time going, “Yes”, “Hmm” “Really?!” However, some of my friends had other ideas!

Thank you, you intrepid woman, for being one of the very few to dare to look for and speak the truth when it comes to female sexuality. No, we don't come after 2 minutes of any male's attention and we should stop knocking nails into our own sexual coffins by pretending we do. No wonder the men are confused if we keep doing that. The time is nigh for some real honesty. Achieving that takes guts, something you obviously have in abundance…..So, long may you challenge the lies and may you get the creative rewards your work deserves.

Male Sexuality: The Atlantis Position - Jenny JamesMale Sexuality: The Atlantis Position - Jenny James
This is a book about men in bed: what they're like, what they could be like, and how they can sort out what's wrong with them if they care to. The subject is handled with insight, humour and compassion, with no mincing of words, and the views expressed often turn conventional ideas upside down. There is none of the mechanical feel of some sex manuals, nor any of the heady analysis of the psychological treatises. This lady writes with that special authority that comes from knowing her subject intimately and painfully well. In the second section of the book, the men of Atlantis commune speak for themselves; and in the third section - entitled "Bird's Eye View" - the women give tested and tried tips on how to cope from "down under" with their men's hangups.

Out of her wide experience in the Atlantis therapy commune, Jenny James has written and compiled a unique handbook of creative ways of reacting to and solving the various emotional and sexual problems that arise between men and women. A number of categories are employed: the married man, the virgin, the romeo, the male woman's libber, the Don Juan, the paedophile, the necrophiliac, the sadist, the abstentionist, and many others. Although these patterns reflect real patterns of behaviour, they are not used ponderously, but with humour and grace. Never before has so much wide experience and insight been packed into one volume on the subject of sexuality! Although often very funny, this book provides a very serious, informative and revolutionary look at Every Man's problems.

Atlantis Inishfree - Jenny JamesAtlantis Inishfree - Jenny James
Atlantis Inishfree, a mythical land where the women reign supreme, unashamed of their own sexuality and of holding the whip hand. The men, in droves, scuttle from rock to rock in this barren landscape, searching for minute scraps of nourishment thrown down by the women. Again and again, they flee to the devastation of the dying cities to regain their strength. And return to be spat upon. Here, in the post-nuclear society, the women know pain, bearing children with no knowledge of the future, organizing the growth of food on a barren windswept island and fighting off the attacks of murdering psychopaths when their men have run away.
This then is the vanguard of the new age, a single healthy cell rejected by the corrupt rotting patriarchal cadaver of society obsessed with its own cancerous hoarding of missile systems. It swims alone in the warm swell of the as yet largely unpolluted ocean, the mother Atlantic on the western edge of Europe and survives on blighted tatties and porridge in the abandoned cottages of a defeated race. It is a rebirth of all that has gone before and in its own knowledge of that, is sure to stand firm, to fight, to hold a mirror to all men that they might see themselves naked and puny, and for those who can accept, to find them healthy and honest employment and a place by the fire. And for those who can't, no ground is offered. They must die their own deaths.
In this book, Jenny James presents the written evidence that these mythological events have already taken place. She not only opens the file for scrupulous inspection, but also offers an actual invitation to any and all of our fellow creatures of the northern hemisphere with any survival instincts in them to act upon them and join her community, either on the island of Inishfree or in the wilds of South America to survive the current crisis of civilization on our planet.

Room To Breathe - Jenny JamesRoom To Breathe - Jenny James
Letters passing between Jenny James and her Reichian therapist David Boadella over a five-year period tell the story of a remarkable therapeutic relationship and "journey into inner space". David's poems to Jenny, her acid trips and glimpses of life at the "People Not Psychiatry" centre she set up in London, combine with the correspondence to produce so much energy per page that this is a book you will definitely have to put down! Room to Breathe was first published in 1975 but has been previously re-issued, prior to its release by Deunant Books, with a new introduction in view of the increasing interest aroused by the radical commune which Jenny later set up called 'Atlantis', the full story of which is told in other books in the Atlantis series.

Atlantis Alive - Jenny JamesAtlantis Alive - Jenny James
Atlantis Alive is the "inside story" of Atlantis, a love story showing through personal letters how therapy works at this primal commune. The book is an account of Jenny James's relationship with a young Irishman, and every aspect of their life together - both emotional and sexual - is revealed in a totally candid fashion. The book is both a biographical study and an account of the personal psychological development of a woman who has pioneered one of the most radical therapeutic communities in existence today.

Atlantis Magic - Jenny JamesAtlantis Magic - Jenny James
Psychic phenomena are around us all the time. But the more you live in tune with yourself and nature, without the distractions of towns, TV and technology, the more evident they become. Atlantis Magic tells the story of how the existence of this "separate reality" made itself known, gently at first and then with increasing insistence, to leading members of Atlantis Commune, until they were forced to admit to themselves that they were powerful psychic mediums. But so are you; it is a case of opening yourself, and providing yourself with the right stimulus. The book contains a number of unusual "readings" on subjects as diverse as Maggie Thatcher, Buddha, "God", various countries and planets, Stonehenge and the commune's sheep dog! It is a strange book where the authoress, Jenny James, tries to reconcile her atheistic, materialist upbringing with the wealth of material that pours in once these psychic doors are opened.

They Call Us The Screamers - Jenny JamesThey Call Us The Screamers - Jenny James
In the mid-1970's, Jenny James created Atlantis, a commune practising a new and radical form of primal therapy. As a result of a great deal of newspaper and television publicity, the commune - known as "The Screamers" - became both famous and notorious throughout Ireland and the rest of the world. The book covers the history of the commune from its inception in 1974, and includes an account of the major events since that time - the reputed kidnappings, the IRA threats, and the legal and political controversies. Jenny James reveals the nature and philosophy of Atlantis through letters, poems and other material, and provides a unique insight into this revolutionary attempt to transform people and the way they live.

Atlantis Is - Jenny JamesAtlantis Is - Jenny James
Over the years many people have wondered about Atlantis; those without direct experience, and even some that have, have arrived at some quite erroneous conclusions. "Atlantis Is" sets the record straight, it's Atlantis as its own people see themselves.
The book fascinates from the first word to the last, yet it is not an attempt at self-justification by any means. Instead it's an honest description of honest people living their lives as they wish. Try it - you will not remain unaffected.
