Tomorrow's Almost Over - Darren Wilson
This is a play about a young man, Jeremy Popplewell, a sensitive bibliophile, who has a genius for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Having been the victim of rape himself, he is implicated in the attempted rape of a young woman and the actual rape of another. However, ironically, it is his being in the right place at the right time that enables him to learn that the father whom he hates is in fact not his father.
The play has been described as a masterpiece; crisply written by an author of rare talent it is deserving of that accolade as time will prove.

The Valley Of Dreams - Bob Bridge
"The Valley Of Dreams" is a play taking as its theme the closure of coal mines in South Wales. A newspaper reporter is writing an article on the subject and is introduced to John Davies, an ex-miner who is fond of reminiscing, ideally over a pint or two of beer in his local pub.
As the play progresses it demonstrates clearly the human aspects of the death of an industry, yet does not romanticise. It acknowledges that the industry itself had a high cost in human life and was the cause of tragedies whilst being the economic lifeblood of an area for generations.
It is a short yet thoughtful piece, giving a fine overview of a most complex subject.

Conflicting Spirits And Other Plays - Ronald White
This set of seven highly individual stage plays have a religious theme to them, expounding the virtues of honesty and Christianity. "Conflicting Spirits" is the story of the summoning of both evil and good spirits - the conflict of the title - whilst "A Miracle For Christmas" also introduces a character from the spirit world; it is perhaps the lightest of the set. A spirit also appears in "A Devil's Contract", but is much less benign than the others.
"The Duke Seeks A Wife" is a parable of love and marriage set in the year 1500. Much more modern and very different, "A Nazi Youth" tells the story of a committed member of the Nazi youth movement, and the shattering shock that awaits him when he expresses a wish to join the SS. "Misconceived Socialism" is a counter-revolutionary work set in a contemporary Court room; as such it shares much with "The Terrorists", although the latter is set in a private house. Both are worthy of their inclusion in this thought-provoking collection.

The Wallet - John Tummon
Set in a Scottish town, 'The Wallet' is the story of the heartless theft of money and property from a disabled old man. The police take the details but don't expect any success in either catching the crooks or recovering any of the stolen cash or goods. The old man's son, though, resolves to do just that.
John Tummon is a writer of great ability who, in this accurately observed piece, is making a sharp comment - as he has done elsewhere in his work - on the facts of 21st century urban life.
It would be interesting to see the piece produced for television.
